Chicagoland Orchid Festival Bus Trip September 23, 24, & 25 There is still time to sign up for the bus trip to the Chicagoland Orchid Festival. Our group will visit all 5 locations of festival sponsors so everyone will have a chance to win a prize in the festival drawing. As always the growers will have specials for festival participants and many new guest growers will be there this year. Plus we will visit Orchids by the Ackers in Madison - a bonus stop. As of mid-July, we have one full bus and are started on filling a second bus. It would really help our planning if you could sign up before or at the August 20th OSM meeting. If there are non-members interested in going, it looks like there will be room for them. For the registration form and tentative itinerary, see the OSM web site, your June newsletter, or contact me, Sarah Tufford, for more information and registration information at 507-685-2821 (e-mail: sarahspatch21@yahoo.com). Last minute signups can be accepted until the end of our show at the State Fair. Please do your planning now and at least let me know you plan to come. Looking forward to a great group and a fun trip! Meeting
Minutes Saturday
June 18, 2005
The business meeting of the Orchid Society of Minnesota was called to order
by President Rick Budzinski at 1 pm. Three visitors were welcomed and one awarded
a copy of Orchids magazine. The May secretary's report and April treasurer's
report were approved. Program chairman Bob Bulthuis announced the day's speaker,
Dr Bannister of Des Moines on "Growing Under Lights", and the growers'
tour set for July 16. Rick Budzinski reminded members that volunteers are needed
for the Sept. 17 Plant Sale at Linders. Sellers must have a current paid
OSM membership.
Conservation chair Sara Tufford asked for help in July counting the native prairie
fringed orchids and is currently accepting checks for the Sept 23-25 bus trip
to Chicago.
Mary Cheleen reported nearly $7000 in book sale profits over the past five years.
Thanks were extended to the Cheleens for their work with Ways and Means, and
to the Youngers for the many positions they have held. Murphys were recognized
as founding OSM members. Lois Holmes has an article in the July Orchids.
The next board meeting will be Aug. 11 at Steve and Kim Livingston's house.
The theme for August is "State Fair". Treasurer's
